Oral Sedation
At our clinic patients (both children and adults) can opt for oral sedation with nitrous gas, commonly known as laughing gas. This type of sedation helps patients overcome petrifying fear and severe stress associated with dental treatments and it acts as a relaxant.
Oral sedation is applied with the use of a device which administers the right dose of nitrous oxide via a special mask. The mask does not prevent the dentist from performing the treatment and is comfortable to use. Please be aware that laughing gas cannot always be used as a substitute for traditional anaesthesia as its fundamental aim is to calm the patient down and not eliminate pain. Nevertheless, it considerably reduces the discomfort of treatments performed at the dentist’s office.
Inhalation sedation Krakow – advantages
- Painlessness and patient comfort: Inhalation sedation helps to reduce pain and discomfort during the procedure, which is particularly important for patients who are afraid of dental appointments. Therefore, it is most often used for paediatric appointments.
- Minimal side effects: nitrous oxide is safe and usually does not cause serious side effects. Therefore, in rare cases nausea may occur, but this is relatively rare.
- No long-term effect: Once sedation is complete, its effects quickly subside. The patient can return to normal activities shortly after the procedure.
- No need for general anaesthesia: Inhalation sedation eliminates the need for more invasive methods of general anaesthesia and is therefore completely comfortable for patients.
- Increased patient cooperation: With sedation and pain reduction, patients are more cooperative during the procedure, making the doctor’s job easier.
- Speed of action: The effects of inhalation sedation are felt almost as soon as it is initiated, allowing the patient to proceed quickly.
- Safe and controlled: The concentration of nitrous oxide and oxygen can be easily adjusted, allowing the sedation level to be precisely tailored to the patient’s needs.
- Reducing anxiety and stress: Nitrous oxide has a calming effect, which helps patients with anxiety before dental or medical procedures.
- Compatibility with other methods: Inhalational sedation can be used in combination with other methods of local anaesthesia, so it allows for a comprehensive approach to pain control.
